Manuela Garnica AlonsoManuela-Topo.pngBrief bio

Manuela Garnica graduated in Physics in 2008 and obtained her M.Sc. in Nanoscience and Molecular Nanotechnology in 2010 at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). During her Ph.D. (2010-2013) she developed her research at the Surface Science Laboratory in the UAM under the supervision of Amadeo L. Vázquez de Parga and Rodolfo Miranda and she also spent three months in Zurich at the Empa laboratories. After a brief postdoc in Madrid, she moved to Germany in 2014 where she was working as Marie Curie fellow at the Technical University of Munich. In February 2018, she joined IMDEA Nanociencia as Junior Leader "La Caixa" fellow. Her research is focused on the topological and correlated phases of tellurium-based 2D quantum materials, combining STM/STS with atomic-scale manipulation to probe their fundamental physics.

Noor ul Ain

Noor-Topo.png

Brief bio

Noor Ul Ain is a PhD researcher at IMDEA Nanociencia, Spain. Her research focuses on two-dimensional quantum materials, particularly their surface structures, electronic properties, and emergent phenomena. Using advanced techniques such as Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM), Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy (STS), and Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES), she investigates novel heterostructures and low-dimensional materials, including transition-metal dichalcogenides. Her current research explores the structural and electronic properties of NbTe₂ monolayers and charge-density-wave phenomena in two-dimensional systems.

Brief bio

Joan Delgado Galbany holds a BSc in Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where he is currently pursuing an MSc in Condensed Matter Physics and Biological Systems. Following an exchange year in Bologna, Italy, he completed a short-term internship in the QMAT-STM Group at IMDEA Nanociencia. He then developed his Bachelor's thesis on atomic-scale light-matter interactions within the institute's Photon STM Group. In September 2026, Joan returned to the QMAT-STM Group to study the interplay between rare-earth magnetism and topological materials using low-temperature STM.
