Dear Alumnus *|IF:FNAME|* *|FNAME|*,

The end of the year is approaching and we have compiled a summary of the recent successes from IMDEA Nanociencia that are of interest to the alumni community.

In this issue: Prof. Rodolfo Miranda's Miguel Catalán Prize, the Early Stage Researchers Workshop in Nanoscience goes international, and the Madrid's team at the international Nanocar Race II. Also, we bring you a summary of the latest events for Alumni. To finish, we inform you that IMDEA Nananociencia currently receives expressions of interest for 'La Caixa' InPhINIT doctoral fellowships.

We take this opportunity to wish you a prosperous New Year,
The Alumni Coordinator

Prof. Rodolfo Miranda awarded with the Miguel Catalán 2021 Prize
The Regional Government of Comunidad de Madrid has awarded the "Miguel Catalán" 2021 Prize to Prof. Rodolfo Miranda, Chair of Condensed Matter Physics at the Autonomous University of Madrid and director of the IMDEA Nanociencia research institute. The award is one of the 2021 Research Prizes awarded by Comunidad de Madrid to recognise the awardees for their scientific careers and their contributions to knowledge.

The Early Stage Researchers Workshop in Nanoscience goes international
With more than 160 attendees from 6 different countries, this 11th edition has become the most international of the Early Stage Researchers Workshop in Nanoscience (#11ESRW). The Workshop was held online on the 1st of December 2021 with 12 talks divided in four thematic sections covering different aspects of Nanoscience: Photophysics, Nanomedicine, Quantum Materials and Surface Science, and Materials.

IMDEA Nanociencia warms up engines for the Nanocar Race II, the world’s smallest car race
The nanomechanics at IMDEA Nanociencia are getting ready their engines for the international Nanocar Race. The research groups led by David Écija and Emilio M. Pérez at IMDEA Nanociencia (Madrid) will participate in the second edition in Toulouse, March 2022. The Nanocar Race is the world’s smallest car race covering the longest distance possible on a gold track for 24 hours, where the vehicles are molecules driven by the interaction with the tip of a scanning tunneling microscope (STM).

Next PhD defenses
  • Rama Prajapati's "Albumin-based nanocarriers for cancer therapy". 15th December 2021.
  • Daniel Moreno's "Engineering electronic and magnetic properties of surface-confined lanthanide-directed metal-organic networks". 16th December 2021.
  • Eduardo García's "Multi-functionalized gold nanoparticles for the delivery of biomolecules". 16th December 2021.
“Career prospects” is a series of talks by IMDEA Nanociencia alumni to give their view of their stay as researchers at IMDEA Nanociencia and their subsequent professional careers, with the objective of providing PhD students a vision for their professional development.

In these candid chats, early career researchers have the opportunity to ask the speakers about the insights of their career paths. The series are open for everyone (no registration required) and are intended to serve as a link between generations of researchers to pass on knowledge and expertise in the professional development, either in academia or industry.

Are you an IMDEA Nanociencia former researcher willing to share your experience? Contact us. We are looking forward to welcome you onboard this series.
IMDEA Nanociencia is inviting expressions of interest from potential international predoctoral researchers who are interested in applying to  “la Caixa” INPhINIT incoming doctoral fellowships. The doctoral INPhINIT fellowships offer a highly competitive salary and complementary opportunities for training on transferrable skills (in annual training sessions), temporary stays in industry, incentives upon completion of the thesis, among other elements that make these fellowships some of the most attractive and complete in Europe.
Deadline: 27th January 2022
