Chemical tools and nanoparticles for the fight against neurodegenerative diseases
Place: Conference room (IMDEA Nanociencia) and online (Zoom).
Abstract:
Our research is focused on the use of chemical tools, including nanoparticles, to understand biological mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases, and finding novel therapeutic agents for them. We use several strategies such as the development of multitarget compounds and the use of Quantum Dots (QDs) to visualize molecular targets, monitor dynamic processes and enzyme activity. We combine these tools with cellular models derived from patients, in an attempt to work closer to personalized diagnostics and treatments. Recently, we have started to study exosomes and exovesicles as a tool to measure therapeutic action. We use the combination of biosensors and nanotechnological tools to select and optimize drug candidates for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Finally, we work with peptides in different applications including cell penetrating peptides and their conjugation with nanoparticles.
