From Surface Science to Nanotechnology: a forty-five years journey - Miranda Fest 2023
This special event belongs to the International Workshop Series at IMDEA Nanociencia under the framework of the “Severo Ochoa” Centre of Excellence.
This workshop shall illustrate how research in Surface Science has served to lay the foundations of Nanoscience and develop its more advanced challenges. In the past years, Surface Science evolved from being an exotic sub[1]field of Physics and Chemistry to a mature discipline able to provide sophisticated tools and controlled methods to many other scientific disciplines, from Materials Science to Biomedical Engineering. Furthermore, Surface Science has established itself as an essential interdisciplinary toolbox for Nanotechnology, unravelling fundamental problems, advancing the in-depth understanding at the nanoscale and developing new methodologies for advanced applications.
The workshop shall take place at IMDEA Nanociencia on March 16th, 2023. The event honours and celebrates the 70th birthday of our Director, Prof. Rodolfo Miranda, one of the scientists that paved the way to consolidate a solid nucleus, first at UAM and now also at IMDEA Nanociencia, devoted to a basic science of surfaces that served as a seed to boost present activities in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Spain.
