Dr. Carlos G. Torres Castanedo
Carlos Torres was born in Mexico, where he obtained a B.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics at ITESM-Monterrey and an M. Sc. degree in Physics at CINVESTAV-Mexico. In 2012-2013, he was a visiting student at MSU in the USA; in 2018-2019, he was a visiting researcher at KAUST in Saudi Arabia. Just afterward, he received a Fulbright fellowship and embarked on a doctoral program at Northwestern University under the guidance of Prof. Mark Hersam and Prof. Michael Bedzyk. In early 2024, he was awarded a Ph. D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University. His doctoral work focused on the interfacial engineering of energy storage and quantum information materials, involving primarily X-ray characterization, in situ measurements, thin film deposition, and surface processing. At IMDEA, Carlos will work on ultrafast X-ray imaging and control of induced phases in manganites and superconducting materials.
