nanoscience and nanotechnology: small is different

International Year of Quantum Science & Technology

Quantum technologies are driving some of the most exciting advances of the 21st century. They are transforming our understanding of the universe and paving the way for revolutionary advances in technology. They reveal a hidden world in which particles behave in ways that defy our everyday understanding of reality. In this quantum world, light can act as both a wave and a particle, electrons can exist in multiple places at the same time, and two particles can remain mysteriously linked no matter how far apart they are. Exploring quantum science is like discovering a new layer of reality that operates by completely different rules.

On 7 June 2024, the United Nations proclaimed 2025 the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ), recognising the 100 years that have passed since the initial development of quantum mechanics.

IMDEA Nanoscience is participating in this initiative with an activity open to third-cycle primary school pupils. More information here (link).
